Guernsey Electricity is currently rolling out new streetlight controllers across the parish. These controllers operate based on a solar calendar, ensuring that lights turn on at sunset and off at sunrise. This system gradually adjusts with the seasons, including the transition to British Summer Time, to provide appropriate lighting when needed.
This follows feedback received by Guernsey Electricity from islanders regarding streetlight timings, with many requesting longer operating hours, with the feeling that adequate lighting is essential for the safety of early commuters using our roads and lanes.
As part of this upgrade, Guernsey Electricity is also transitioning to energy-efficient LED luminaires with a 3K warm white specification, which is more environmentally friendly than the traditional street lights used.
If any particular streetlight is causing glare, Guernsey Electricity can install a luminaire guard to minimise back glare while maintaining necessary illumination.
