Refuse Collection & Disposal

In St Andrew, kerbside collection of refuse and recycling should be put out on Thursday evenings by 9.45p.m.

The type of materials collected alternate weekly.

First Week

  • Food waste - in the sealable, kerbside caddy provided.
  • Clear Bag - Paper and cardboard.
  • General refuse - Black bag.

Second Week

  • Food waste - in the sealable, kerbside caddy provided.
  • Blue Bag - Tins and cans; plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays; foil; and milk and juice cartons
  • Glass bag (reusable) - bottle and jars, any colour. No Pyrex dishes or drinking glasses, but those items can be taken to Household Waste & Recycling Centre at Longue Hougue.

Non-recyclable 'black bag' refuse requires a prepaid, refuse charge sticker attached to every 'black bag' put out for collection. Refuse stickers can be purchased from supermarkets and convenience stores.

There is no restriction on the number of black bags that can be put out on “black bag nights” provided that an appropriate sticker is attached to each bag; stickers are not required on recycling bags.

In addition to these charges, the Waste Authority makes an annual fixed charge. Invoices for this are posted to all householders by the Waste Authority in February.

The Parish only charges householders for the cost of collections and this charge is considered at the Parish meeting in the Spring.
